Hurricane Irene Recovery: Be Careful With Electrical Equipment
As manufacturers on the U.S. eastern seaboard recover from Hurricane Irene, it’s important to follow NEMA guidelines to ensure the safe and effective repair of hazardous electrical equipment. Schneider Electric reminds companies of the precautions they should take to ensure employee safety and avoid costly damage to physical equipment and the financial losses of a prolonged shutdown. N.A. Machine Vision Market Looks Healthy
North American machine vision sales grew 16% in the second quarter compared with Q2 of 2010, according to the latest numbers from the Automated Imaging Association (AIA). "The double–digit growth of the market in 2Q 2011 is particularly impressive in view of the fact that it’s based on a comparison to 2Q 2010, when the MV recovery was already in full swing," said Paul Kellett, AIA’s director of market analysis. The AIA report recorded robust sales across almost all major machine vision supplier markets, including cameras, lighting, optics, software, application–specific machine vision systems, and smart cameras. The industry expects sales to stay at current levels or to increase in the next six months, with just 9% of reporting companies expecting sales to decrease. Read more »

Motion Control Carries on With Recovery
Though experiencing a slight decline over the previous quarter, Q2 results continue to show that the motion control market is on the mend. Second-quarter sales being down a bit is consistent with measures of manufacturing sector performance for the period and, compared with the same quarter of 2010, orders were up almost 24%, according to the Motion Control Association (MCA). "The results of the second quarter strongly suggest that the motion control market recovery has not lost its vigor," said Paul Kellett, MCA’s director of market analysis. Read more »
